How to set up a Wallet

Step-by-step guide on how to create a wallet

Last updated 24 days ago

Introduction

Since the Mars Protocol is a Cosmos-based app, users need a Cosmos-compatible wallet. In this guide, we’ll focus on creating a new wallet from scratch.

Some supported options include:

  • (former XDEFI)

  • (via the Leap Cosmos Snap integration)

1. Install a Wallet Extension

  • Open the Extension Store

    • In Chrome or Brave, go to the (or Brave Extension Store) and search for your chosen wallet (e.g., “Keplr Wallet”).

    • In Edge, enable Allow extensions from other stores in Settings, then visit the Chrome Web Store page for your wallet.

  • Add to Browser

    • Click “Add to Chrome” (or equivalent) and confirm any prompts.

  • Verify Installation

    • You should see the wallet’s icon in your browser’s extensions area.

2. Open the Wallet Extension and Create a New Wallet

  • Launch the Extension

    • Click the puzzle-piece (🧩) icon in your toolbar, then select your wallet.

  • Choose a Setup Option

    • Create a new wallet (via Recovery Phrase or Google account)

    • Import an existing wallet (via Recovery Phrase, Private Key, or Google account)

    • Connect a hardware wallet (Ledger or Keystone)

  • Select “Create New Wallet”

    • Choose Create new wallet, then Create new recovery phrase to generate a brand-new Secret Recovery Phrase.

3. Back Up Your Secret Recovery Phrase

  • Reveal the Phrase

    • Click Show my phrase to display your 12 (or 24) secret words.

  • Store It Securely

    • Write down every word in order on paper or another secure offline medium.

    • Do NOT share this phrase—anyone with it can access your funds.

  • Confirm the Phrase

    • Click Next, then re-enter or re-select the words in the correct order to verify your backup.
